Panel to Prose: Translating Superheroes from Four-Color Staple to Literary Trope
Superheroes have long been the near-exclusive purview of comics when it comes to print. With the recent massive success of movies adapted from the comics, superheroes are enjoying wider appeal than ever before. Can body-suit clad heroes make the leap from glossy graphics-laden pages to prose novels?
It should be a fun and lively discussion of what we love about superheroes and their viability outside of “funny books” and the cinematic universes.
Anna Alexander is the award winning author of the Heroes of Saturn and the Sprawling A Ranch series. With Hugh Jackman’s abs and Christopher Reeve’s blue eyes as inspiration, she loves spinning tales of superheroes finding love. Anna also loves to give back and has served on the board for the Greater Seattle Romance Writers of America as chapter president and on the committee for the Emerald City Writers Conference.

Game designer, college instructor, and SF/fantasy author, Ellen Guon Beeman has co-written three novels with Mercedes Lackey and a solo novel, all published with Baen Books. She’s also published numerous science fiction and fantasy short stories. Ellen continues to write fiction and also is an independent game developer, and teaches game software design and production as a Senior Lecturer at DigiPen Institute of Technology.
Elizabeth Flynn has written and edited superhero prose. She’s written fiction in the form of comic book stories, fantasies (romantic, urban, and historical), and short stories (most under the name of Eilis Flynn). She’s also a professional editor and has been for 40 years, working with academia, technology, finance, genre fiction, and comic books. H.L. Reasby is a resident of the beautiful Pacific Northwest where she lives with her husband and a small menagerie of pets, including a cat, a crazed Pug, and a rambunctious German Shepherd Dog. She is an avid reader, a fan of action and sci-fi and fantasy movies, and also enjoys both computer and pen-and-paper gaming.
Garth Reasby was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest and currently lives there with his wife Heather Reasby, also an author, and their menagerie of animals. Over the years Garth has done a variety of work besides writing. When Garth does find time to relax he enjoys reading, comic books, video games, music, going camping and off-roading.
